A few of Pete Dusel's selected PBP2011 Photos

Aug 20, 2011, 13:45 Sophie Matter, at registration

Aug 20, 2011, 11:56 The Taiwanese showed a lot of spirit!

Aug 20, 2011, 14:27 You just can't keep Renato from showing off....

Aug 20, 2011, 14:30 The Canadian Randonneurs, and a few imposters, like me....

Aug 21, 2011, 17:32 The infamous tunnel heading to the soccer field.

Aug 21, 2011, 17:59 Liz Overduin being interviewed before the start.

Aug 21, 2011, 18:46 Paul Bacho in the stadium waiting for the start.
Paul is one of only four US riders to complete PBP seven times. No US riders have finished more PBPs.
I had the pleasure of riding most of the first day in Paul's company.

Aug 21, 2011, 19:32 Chatting with Heather, who was filming for Damon Peacock, at the start.

Aug 21, 2011, 19:51 A happy Liz Overduin a few minutes after the start.
Although I heard her "Whoop Whoop" for a while, I didn't see her for very long as she headed out of sight ahead of me....

Aug 22, 2011, 01:54 I caught up with the press at the rest stop.

Aug 22, 2011, 08:56 Bill Schwarz cranking along.
I had the pleasure of riding with Bill for a while, untill he dropped me like a rock on a down hill!

Aug 22, 2011, 08:56 A frame from a short video of Bill Schwarz cranking along.
The video will be posted here soon.

And here's the video!
Bill Schwarz cranking along!

Aug 22, 2011, 10:02 A decorated bike in a village we went through.
There were many decorated like this along the route.

Aug 22, 2011, 16:05 The line dancers in Tinteniac.
A video of this will be posted here soon.

Aug 22, 2011, 16:05 The line dancers in Tinteniac.
And here's the video!
I'm told that this is a traditional dance done inside of a newly built house.
The purpose was to pack down a new dirt floor. Watching the dancer's feet, this
makes perfect sense.

Aug 23, 2011, 11:31 Sophie Matter, and others, between Carhaix and Brest
I had the pleasure of chatting with Sophie during the ride.

Aug 23, 2011, 11:31 Same Location, between Carhaix and Brest

Now they're facing the camera!

Aug 23, 2011, 13:51 A camera crew at the Brest control.

Aug 23, 2011, 15:30 Pete and Dipsy, at the turnaround in Brest.
Dipsy was originally a "comfort gift" from my three year old daughter. She is much older now, and slightly embarassed...
Dipsy doesn't say much, never pedals any, but he enjoys the view, is always good company, and a great listener!
Dipsy is quite the randonneur with many shorter brevets, four 1200ks, and three R5000s under his belt.
I've done a few brevets before Dipsy...

Aug 24, 2011, 08:40 My "office" during PBP.

Aug 24, 2011, 13:28 Mark Brooking and Maude Arabella saddling up.
Mark and I met at BMB in 1996. He was, of course, riding a trike.

Aug 24, 2011, 17:31 One of the many garages people set up for a nap, drink and bite to eat along the way.

Aug 24, 2011, 19:57 Villaines la Juhel

Aug 24, 2011, 19:57 Villaines la Juhel
As background, I'm wearing my Adrian Hands Society jersey.
I wasn't going to post this, as the quality is pretty poor.
If you listen, you can hear Sophie saying she wants to join.

Aug 25, 2011, 14:17 Turning in my card at the finish.
I may have ridden to many PBPs, the official and I recognized each other from other PBPs....

Aug 25, 2011, 14:19 Sophie Matter, and Pete Dusel at the Finish
Sophie mentioned she wanted to qualify for the Adrian Hand's society.
I made the cutoff this time by just one minute, and sadly she finished ahead of me, so missed qualifying.

Aug 25, 2011, 15:16 Not looking too bad for an old guy at the end of a 1200k!
If you read the Polar HRM, 770.6 miles, heart rate of 64 (I think it was lying),
average rolling speed of 12.7 MPH

Aug 25, 2011, 20:07 Post ride dinner with the Randonneurs Ontario, of which I'm a member.
Carrie and Rolph, if I'm not mistaken.

Aug 25, 2011, 20:09 Dick making the obligatory speech.

Aug 26, 2011, 09:04 Dick at breakfast, the morning after.
Some of the puffiness is from a bee sting he suffered during the ride.
The rest, is just the aftermath of a 1200k....
